Buying Culinary Herbs Online
To make a purchase, please browse our Store and add any items you wish to buy into the Shopping Cart. Please note there is a minimum order of three herb plants for any online order. After you have finished your selection, click on Checkout and you will be asked for a few more details in order to complete your order.
We accept card payments. All credit card numbers are encrypted and are not held in clear text on any website. Payments are processed safely and securely via the Shopify payment gateway.
If you have made a mistake in your order please contact us as soon as possible and we will endeavour to correct the mistake.
When confirmation of your order is received, this indicates we have received your order. This does not indicate that a contract exists between us. We will indicate acceptance of your order - and hence a contract between us - when we send you an invoice or payment receipt. We have included this term to protect us in case a mistake has been made in pricing, or we have inadvertently under-priced goods, or we are no longer able to supply a particular product for some reason. In the case of a change in price, we will always contact you first to ensure the revised price is acceptable.
Postage and Packing
Large plant orders are sent using a 24-hour carrier. Small plant orders are sent using Royal Mail First class.
Deliveries by carrier are sent as ‘Signature Optional’. This does not require you to be at home for the delivery. However, it is important you include delivery instructions when you reach the Checkout, informing us and the carrier of a safe place to leave the plants.
We will always pass on any special instructions to leave the goods in a safe place; however, we cannot guarantee the carrier will do this and we cannot accept any liability for loss or damage caused in this way.
Delivery Prices
1-6 pots: £6.99
7-9 pots: £8.99
10+ pots: £10.99
By spending £50+ online, you will qualify for Free Delivery. We reserve the right to vary the terms of this promotion at any time, or to withdraw this promotion altogether.
The plants we supply are living items and can perish quickly if the packaging is not opened promptly. If the carrier attempts a delivery, but is unable to deliver the goods due to no one being available to accept the goods at the delivery address provided, the goods may be taken to a collection office and – in which instance – we cannot accept liability for damage to the goods while they are in the packaging for longer than 24 hours.
We endeavour to send out orders within 3-5 working days of ordering. Delays can occasionally occur if we experience events out of our control (such as an exceptionally busy week, waiting for plants to grow to a saleable size or bad weather) or during our busy show season.
Delivery Dispatch Days
We send out plants on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. When you receive your order dispatch notification, you can usually expect the plants to arrive the following day.
Packaging
Plants are sent out in blister packs (threes or sixes) or cardboard boxes, which are made from recycled materials. Please re-use or recycle the packaging.
Delivery Problems
Delivery problems are very rare, but should you experience any problems with your delivery, please let us know straightaway so we can endeavour to help rectify the issue. Please see further details in these Terms and Conditions.
Ordering and Availability
We have lovingly grown our herb plants on our nursery and our aim is to get them to you in the best possible condition. Therefore, all items shown as ‘in stock’ should be on the nursery ready to send. However, we do attend farmers’ markets, large retail shows and events during March and September, so our stock levels can fluctuate from time to time. Our availability (‘in stock’) list is updated every Monday, so for a more accurate idea of what we have available at a given time, please check our Products page as close to Monday as possible. We also supply a small amount of wholesale to local businesses; therefore, if you do wish to order a lot of one particular item, please e-mail us first to check on our stock levels.
If we do make an error with stock control, we will always attempt to arrange something alternative with you before sending out your order.
Tax Charges
Delivery charges are clearly stated at the point of purchase.
Herb plants which are not predominately culinary plants attract VAT at the standard rate (currently 20%). This has been excluded in the price of any such VAT-applicable plants, but will be shown separately - for tax purposes - on the Checkout page and invoice.
Prices listed are exclusive of VAT where applicable and at the appropriate rate.
Guarantee
Our aim is to provide our customers with top quality plants. We have worked hard to implement a packing and dispatch method to ensure our herbs reach you in the best condition, but if you believe your herbs are not up to standard, please contact us by e-mail or telephone within 24 hours of receiving the goods and we will endeavour to rectify this via replacement, refund or credit note. You will need to provide us with a photograph as evidence of the problem. We regret we cannot accept liability for the goods after 24 hours of the delivery date. Please see our returns policy for more details.
Please remember that herb plants are living things! Our liability is restricted to the value of the goods ordered and we cannot accept responsibility for items which fail to grow due to extreme weather conditions, over- or under-watering, or which have not been suitably cared for.
Your statutory rights are not affected.
Returns Policy
Once you have placed an order you have every right to cancel it prior to dispatch. Due to our goods being perishable items we cannot accept the goods back in return for a refund once they have been dispatched. Your rights to return the goods are not protected under the EU distance selling directive.
Privacy policy
The Culinary Herb Company does not disclose buyers’ information to third parties other than when order details are processed as part of the order fulfilment.
Data collected by this site is used to;
a. Take and fulfil customer orders.
b. Only disclose information to third-parties for goods delivery purposes.
General Information
We reserve the right to make changes to product information and prices without prior notice.
Illustrations of items featured are for guidance only. We reserve the right to supply an item which may not be identical to the illustration; but could be identified as the same product.
We will endeavour to include the exact plants as listed, but if a specific variety is unavailable at the time of despatch, we will include a substitute plant/plants.
In some cases you may notice you have received plants that have been cut back or appear to have the tops cut off. This is completely normal and is usually done to plants that are too tall for the packaging or have finished flowering. This does not affect the plant in any way. If you require plants to be in their full form and not cut back, please contact us first to see if this is possible. If no enquiry is made prior to dispatch and you receive plants that have been cut back you, will not be able to exchange them or request a refund or replacement.
Depending on the time of year you order your plants, you may notice that some plants may be in their dormant stage and appear to have little or no foliage above the soil. This is completely normal and they should be planted in the same way as all other plants. Once the soil/weather warms up, the plant will grow as normal.
Reaching Us
If you need to reach us please e-mail us using the link on the Store page. Alternatively, you can call 07929 545488 or write to The Culinary Herb Company, The Barn, Nightingale Farm, Hailsham Road, Polegate, East Sussex BN26 6RE, United Kingdom.
Receiving Your Plants
We strongly advise you open the packaging immediately after the plants are delivered, then water the plants thoroughly and as soon as possible after arrival. You may notice your plants will arrive dry. This is completely normal and is done to prevent the plants from becoming too heavy during transit. You may also notice that sometimes soil has been displaced during transit. Again, this is completely normal and does not affect the plants in any way.
It is advised the plants are planted into bigger pots or in the ground, so that they actively grow. Plants that are left in the same pot as they were sent in may become pot-bound and may not last as long as they should.
