This variety produces attractive dark red/purple leaves and stems. It is highly fragrant with mild undertones of liquorice. It can be used in the same way as sweet basil.
The leaves can be added to pasta sauces, pizza, soups, stews, vegetables, herb oils and adds an interesting colour to salads.
Plant somewhere sheltered from the wind in rich, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
This plant grows particularly well on windowsills.
